A Charter Captain’s Dream Boat: The Twin Vee 340 GFX

For Captain Kevin Harrison, every day starts and ends on the water. As the owner of Harrison Chew Charters in the Stuart and Jensen Beach area of Florida’s Treasure Coast, he spends most of his time running clients offshore in pursuit of tuna, wahoo, and swordfish. For years, he relied on a monohull that got the job done, but his back and his schedule paid the price. That all changed after one sea trial on the new Twin Vee 340 GFX, the offshore fishing boat that he says has already transformed how he works and plays.

“I run charters out of the Stuart-Jensen area,” he explained. “I am receiving a 340 GFX Twin Vee. Just got done doing a sea trial and it went amazing.”

Choosing a Catamaran for Offshore Fishing

When Harrison started shopping for a new boat, he knew it had to be a catamaran. His charter schedule demanded something that could handle rough conditions without wearing him down.

“I was in the market looking for a catamaran and going through the options,” he said. “I heard that Twin Vee is one of the best riding boats out there.”

He researched every model Twin Vee offered, from the 22 BayCat and the 240 GFX up to the larger offshore models. The company’s willingness to customize the 340 GFX to his specifications sealed the deal.

“We looked at the 22s, the 24s, the 26s, the 28s, and they had a 34, and they said that they could build me one,” Harrison said. “So we went ahead and went with that.”

Working closely with the Twin Vee team, he selected powder-coat colors, upholstery, hull color, and engine configuration. Every decision reflected his goal: a durable, fast, comfortable charter platform that could run in nearly any condition.

Why a Catamaran Was the Only Choice

Harrison already had experience with a 30-foot Pro Sport Bluewater Edition—an 11-foot-wide monohull that worked well until the seas turned ugly. After years of pounding through rough water, he was ready for a smoother, more efficient ride.

“It’s comfortable, but it hates rough seas,” he said. “And my back cannot handle rough seas anymore. Cats run really, really well in rough seas. And I want to go fishing every day. The only problem is in my boat, I can’t fish every day because it’s a monohull. These cats will definitely destroy them.”

He laughed as he recalled how quickly the 340 GFX changed his expectations. “These cats destroy big waves, big seas, and just ride super comfortable,” he said.

First Impressions on the 340 GFX

The sea trial confirmed everything Harrison had hoped for. It was his first time running a Twin Vee, and within minutes, he knew he’d made the right call.

“Today was actually the first day that I’ve ever ridden on a Twin Vee boat and didn’t know what to expect,” he said. “But when Captain Skip said, ‘Hey, I’m gonna go through this boat wake,’ and I’m talking about this boat wake was like three, four-foot wave. He says, ‘Watch, it’s going to go over it like nothing.’ Literally, he plows down, bow came up, and I was expecting a slam—and it just landed like a cloud.”

That moment sold him. The catamaran’s twin hulls absorbed the impact effortlessly, keeping the ride dry and stable. Harrison left the dock convinced that his charter clients would feel the same difference he did.

Comfort That Wins Over the Family Too

Fishing is a family affair for Harrison, and he said his wife and kids quickly became fans of the new boat.

“My family is obsessed with this boat,” he said. “Comfortability wise, all the extra accessories with the coffin box seating, the rear seating is super comfortable. It just doesn’t compare to a monohull—at least my boat.”

The layout of the 340 GFX gives him room to entertain, relax, and host groups comfortably on long runs. Whether he’s running offshore charters or cruising with family, the extra beam and storage make a noticeable difference.

Planning Big Adventures Ahead

Even before the boat officially joined his charter fleet, Harrison was already thinking about where to take it.

“What I’m looking forward to is doing a lot of Bahama crossings,” he said. “Definitely going to be trailing it to some grounds that I don’t fish very often, like St. Augustine. I’m going to take this boat out in anything and everything.”

He plans to put the 340 GFX through its paces, testing it in conditions he would never attempt in his old monohull. The list of targets is ambitious: yellowfin tuna, blackfin tuna, wahoo, and swordfish.

“We’re going to put her through the test,” he said. “We’re going to go after yellowfin tunas, blackfin tunas. We’re going to live bait for wahoo, go across to the Bahamas, do some deep dropping, sword fishing. That’s what I’m really excited for.”

A Captain’s Verdict on Twin Vee

After years of running charters and logging countless hours offshore, Harrison summed up his impression simply.

“Twin Vee makes a badass boat.”

It’s a straightforward assessment of a working captain who spends more time offshore in a year than most people do in a lifetime. For him, the Twin Vee 340 GFX isn’t just a new offshore fishing boat. It’s a game changer that allows him to run farther, fish longer, and come home comfortable enough to do it all again tomorrow.
